Paul Erdős famously referred to, with no small frequency, an individual he called “The Supreme Fascist” or more often just, “the SF”. I, too, am a weird guy who places – perhaps undue – importance on mathematics as a human endeavor. I, too, occasionally hate things about mathematics and feel indignant about the rough edges that annoy me mostly due to my own incompetence.

What I’m saying here is the SF is sitting up there with the book of good theorems, but simultaneously has been sneaking in bad theory the whole time. I thought,

“Someone oughta write a letter”

So here we are.

I would not expect these letters to be full of great arguments, but every now and again one must be allowed to get irrational at the SF; it’s only human after all.
